Consortium - Armando Ghidoni, Composer

BIO

Italian by origin but French by adoption, Armando Ghidoni brings together in his music the spirit of Italy and that of France. An eclectic composer, his melodies reveal the sensitivity and tradition of "bel canto". His harmonic writing evokes both French impressionism and the rhythms of jazz, giving his works a unique and very personal character.

Many of his compositions are considered to be reference material and are regularly required repertoire in the most important national and international competitions.   Armando Ghidoni's catalogue brings together some one hundred works - a symphony, an opera, stage music, sacred music, chamber music, performed in prestigious venues all over the world: USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, Korea, Carnegie Hall in New York, Opéra Bastille in Paris, "Semana Ghidoni" in Rio de Janeiro.  Programmed at the Opéra de Vichy, his opera Minou et Gourmolon, an opera in two acts, has been performed several times in France and abroad, notably in Vienna, Austria in a German translation.

His Magical Concert for flute, piano and string orchestra has had great success all over the world, including at the Opera Theatre of Shanghai.  Maestro Ghidoni is a winner of the National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition for his wind quartet "Swinging Counterpoint."    He is also the recipient of Honorable Mention prizes in previous years from the NFA for his works Jazzy Flute Challenge for flute and piano (2014), Badaluk Concerto for wind quintet (2006) and Adagio for flute and harp (1996).

The 12th European Music Competition of Picardy, dedicated to the saxophone, was dedicated to Maestro Ghidoni under the name "Concours Armando Ghidoni", and a hall at the Conservatoire de Musique de Lencloître (Vienne department, France) now bears his name.  In November 2016, the Conservatoire at Vienne honored him for his musical activity around the world.   He has been decorated with the department's medal following a concert dedicated to his music.
